With little less than 4 weeks to go, I made this wedding trailer to make the waiting a little more bearable :) Enjoy!
Update: tickets, dress...
After a interesting weekend, here's some more news! We booked the tickets, and on 12 August Indy will get on board to fly to Holland, and on 13 August Kjeld will await her arrival at Schiphol Airport. Anyone care to join to pick them up? :)
This week Indy will pickup her dress, but Kjeld doesnt know how it looks, and is not allowed to know, so you will have to wait with the detailed pictures on this until after the wedding. A few details that i do know: it's a custom designed dress, kebaya style, and it's ivory white... but that's really all that it publicly known...
The rings are also finished (just need to pick them up at the jewelry store and get them engraved) We ordered the flower at Groenrijk (http://www.groenrijk.nl) in Breda too. We have got a good photographer (Serge de Wekker) and made a first draft for the church ceremony booklet.
Well, that's all for now! Just a few more weeks...........

MVV for Indy
Good news for the masses:
Indy got her MVV! After the approval of the procedure earlier, Indy went to the embassy in jakarta yesterday and walked back out with the MVV D+C in her passport. It was the final paper we needed so that she can stay in Holland after the marriage! (you can leave a message on the guestbook if you want to congratulate Indy!)
Wedding Invitations
This sunday Kjeld got up at 5am to pickup Ibu Fank and her husband Bapak Anton from the airport, with their two sons. Of course I brought them some nice dutch treats (Stroopwafels!) and showed them around amsterdam a little bit. Kjeld even visited the Van Gogh museum for the first time in his life! And a few hours later as they went to Edam, they also gave Kjeld the invitations. Like we mentioned earlier on our blog here, we "offshored" the invitations in a very cost-effective way. The invitations were made in Indonesia and because we had the luck of Ibu Fank and Bapak Anton coming to Holland, they could even bring us most of the invitations!
And to be fairly honest: those invitations look really classy! :) We are happy we could make such beautiful invitations and also arrange it within a reasonable time. Indy did a great job in arranging that, and now it's up to Kjeld to write and deliver them around the invited guests in Holland...
Wedding preparation checklist...
Hmm, we still need to do a few things, but we are well on our way to having everything arranged somewhere early July. Which is a nice timing, so we can just relax for the last few weeks...
For inspiration and example: here's our wedding checklist...

MVV request for advice - final judgement
WOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOO Finally!! Today felt like the 10 ton truck was finally off my shoulders: the IND approved the MVV advice, and Indy can make an appointment at the Embassy in jakarta to pick up her MVV D+C Visa.
But despite the happiness: I'm still amazed by the slow IND... On june 9th I called the IND again, and finally there was news: someone was working on the case now and will report back before the 18th of June with the final judgement. Eventually, it only took him 3 days to see the papers were ok, and send us the result. Maybe it's just me, but if it's easily done in 2 or 3 days, why wait 2,5 months before starting it...? On the other hand: I heard sad stories of a few years back where it could take up to 6 or 7 months to approve those papers...
But Indy is of course very happy with the news too, and we already have all the papers ready for the D+C Visum. Next week friday she will go to the embassy and hand in all the papers, and fill in the MVV D+C form.
IND annoyances
The IND is one of those instances that proves that the only hardworking thing in government offices is the coffee-machine... with the possible exception of the copiers...
I started to keep a log, and see how much progress they made. We really should be a simple case, since we meet all the requirements for the MVV, and have no "specialties" about us that could make the procedure harder... but if you dont even look at it, it doesnt matter... the IND can take 3 months, so why on earth would they process it faster than that??
read and weep, here is the log so far: 13 May: Called IND, no news on MVV advice. The woman on the phone told me that a "faster procedure" was only possible in case of decease or governmental emergencies. 7 May: Called IND, no news on MVV advice. They told me that once the MVV advice is complete, the approval is send to the embassy in Jakarta and from there the official MVV is just a formality: only need to pay the leges (of 830 Euro) and hand in the required documents. 24 April: Called IND, no news on MVV advice 21 April: Ondertrouw (marriage registration) at the municipal in Breda 16 April: Received approved M46 form 14 April: IND approved M46 Form 10 April: called for update: no news on M46, no news on MVV advice 2 April: IND received MVV request for advice 25 maart: MVV request for advice send in 20 maart: send in M46
Still no news....... so we keep on giving the IND our weekly calls.
Offshoring marriage preparations
For all you professionals out there, surely you know offshoring (if not, see wikipedia on offshoring) and I have news for you: there is definately LOTS of benefit to be gained by planning your marriage well and using the possibilities of today's globalism: offshoring your marriage activities. There are some difficulties, but in our case, 50% of Kjeld&Indy is in Indonesia, so hence our easy access to good offshoring spots:
- marriage invitations - a specially designed wedding dress - a tailor made wedding suit - wedding giveaways - other clothes (shoes, evening dress, etc)
This is a small part of the things we did offshore... and in our case, we saved approximately 3000 euro (my guess) by doing these things in Indonesia instead of in Holland...
M46 victory!
I came home from a long day work, and when opening the mailbox there was a letter from the ministery of Justice... "how odd", i thought, since im not a regular customer of anyone in the ministery of justice...
But when i opened the letter, i thought... YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS vicotory!
The letter inside notified me that my request, as received on the 21st of March, was approved and that I could make an appointment at the city council to register the marriage. So their rather fuzzy information on the fact it can take "somewhere between 1 and 5 months" was not a big deal after all: it took them only 3,5 weeks or so...ah well... This M46 declaration is valid for 6 months, so we have to get married within 6 months from now. But surely that will not be a problem!
paperwork and governmental issues...
allright, so we dive into the stuff we need to get married here in Holland... Since Indy is from outside the European union, there is a whole battalion of lazy government people to harass before we get where we wanna be... bear with me:
- since she is not from the European union, we need a M46 declaration. When i call the IND, they have no idea how long it takes, because it also depends on the city you live in. But they know it's usually done somewhere between 1 and 5 months... (talking about a nice safety margin for your forecasting...)
- After the M46 form has arrived, I can go to the city hall in Breda (since that's where i live) and register the marriage. I still need some papers... knowing, the original bith-certificate and proof of being unmarried from both paries.
- The process of getting the papers done in Indonesia, can take up to 3 months. Bribes do help, as well as having someone dedicated on this cause. Luckily, we saw this coming and within as little as 1,5 month (just for the fun: it took me 20 minutes to arrange in Holland...including my bike trip to the city hall) we arranged the papers.
- Even after this is arranged, Indy still needs to come to Holland on a Visa (or as we will do it: via the official MVV procedure) but this is another story....
